"if you think you can't do yoga, you're my people"

ree

You might have come across my motto. Although it's not grammatically perfect, it encapsulates my philosophy. I firmly believe that everyone can practice yoga and gain from its benefits. This enthusiasm for making yoga accessible to all, along with my extra training and expertise as a Yoga Therapist, allows me to tailor the practice to fit each individual.

What to expect from a yoga class with me:

You will be greeted by me and other group members. I create a warm and inclusive environment. In today's world, it's common to be around people yet feel lonely and disconnected, lacking a sense of community. Many people express feeling unnoticed in a typical studio setting. In my smaller, more personal classes, you will always be acknowledged and asked about your day, week, or any recent challenges or life events. While you can choose to remain anonymous, that's not the usual experience in my classes.

We'll talk about anything you're experiencing that might affect the practice. The sequence is generally planned based on the class you've chosen, but it often shifts depending on the participants' mood or vibe.

Thank you! I love our little Kooty yoga group and am so grateful to be part of it. You do more than just yoga

I'm a beginner/never done yoga, can I join?

Absolutely. In fact I love seeing someone's confidence grow as their practise develops. The simple changes to their life, small tasks becoming easier, sleeping better or feeling more relaxed.

I can put my pants on easier - chair yoga participant

Can I practise after injury?

Once cleared by a medical professional, of course. If you are happy to share the reports or findings with me, I can use my Yoga Therapy skills to modify and cater the practise to improve your recovery.

I can't even touch my toes!

Welcome. Lots of people can't! And I'm not a naturally flexible person either, I have improved though with practise. And every day I face the same challenges, sometimes feeling that I've "reset" overnight, however once I've practised I always feel better and those toes are a little closer ;)

I'm not skinny and don't look good in yoga pants or tights!

We're all individual and so long as you wear comfortable clothing so that you can move and stretch a little you'll be fine.

I can't meditate.

Oh gosh I love this one! None of us can. Everyone has this concept that they must be able to clear their mind and sit in stillness for hours on end in a monk like state. Monks take years of dedicated practise to be able to achieve this. If we can find a moment, a snippet of calm and stillness, then we have achieved something great. By the way meditation comes in many forms, often tasks we enjoy such as gardening, going for a walk, reading, playing with our children or grandchildren, sipping our morning tea or coffee, etc allow the mind a little respite. And some days are harder than others, but that is ok, there is always tomorrow.

Isn't yoga just a fad?

The term yoga, means "to yoke," the yoga practise originated in India over 2000 years ago. As with many ancient practices, yoga has experienced a resurgence, particularly due to the influence of social media platforms like Instagram. Unfortunately, this has also led to misconceptions, as many believe yoga is only for thin, extremely flexible individuals performing impressive poses, which does not reflect the true essence of yoga.

Why should I try yoga?

You should only do what feels right for you, and during a class I am continually encouraging participants to notice how their body feels and be guided by it's needs. Yoga fosters a mind body connection, participants often note how much better they feel after a class, not just physically but mentally.

What are the benefits of yoga?

  • Improved flexibility

  • Improved sleep

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Increased feeling of wellbeing especially for those experiencing anxiety or depression

  • Eases lower back pain

Still undecided?

Feel free to reach out for a conversation or think about scheduling a one-on-one or small group session. Additionally, if you've practiced yoga with me or another instructor and it didn't feel right, I encourage you to try a different teacher or studio, as you might find someone who better suits your needs.

Be free to live your best life.
